Lover of Life, Singer of Songs

This vivacious young woman has been making a name for herself crossing multiple genres; singing sultry torch songs, powerful blues & soul, and swingin' tunes that dancers can't seem to get enough of!

"Whitney is one heck of a singer.  She's really talented.  She really has heart." -Candi Staton (4 Time Grammy Nominee)

"Shay is a formidable musical force, ripe for discovery on a national level." -La Jolla Today
'Must Hear'

"Whitney Shay is an amazing performer with such a unique style.  I love her music.  The young woman is definitely going places.  I'll be able to say 'I knew her when'."
-Sam Bass, DJ for KYXY 96.5

"Whitney Shay [sings] with the depth and mojo of a woman twice her age."
"Whitney Shay [can] pound out the blues like someone I interviewed years ago who told me her name was Miss Peaches and who had the advantages of years and heft on Shay...Shay sometimes has a rasp in her delivery that sounds like her pipes were basted in the same gin and juice and nicotine as [Etta] James over years (they were not.).  At other times, she glides about the blues scale slippery, free of gravity like a trombone.  But what rivets a listener's shoes to the floor is the sheer sound of confidence."

"Whitney Shay is a young singer who, with her blues band or jazz ensemble, is raising the rafters on many a San Diego nightspot...Shay has an original approach to her music, and it is a bit difficult to describe the way she sings...Her voice has a great deal of presence and projection, and there is an honesty in her approach...Shay is a singer with a big voice who isn’t trying to show it off but isn’t afraid to use it either."

Whitney Shay's Debut CD!
Finally after 3 years of playing music, I have decided to release my first album.  The last few months I have been working with my fantastic producer Archie Thompson (http://archiethompson.com/archtones.html) to create an old school R&B/Soul album that shows the diversity of styles I love, yet has a common thread throughout.  What we came up are 12 horn drenched tracks: 7 classic and obscure covers, 4 originals Archie wrote for me, and one original which we co-wrote together.  The tracks were chosen to show a great diversity of styles: from blues to R&B to jazz standards, but they all flow so wonderfully well together!  Archie plays piano/organ/sax on the album as well as guitar/bass/drums on certain tracks, Brian Nucci Cantrell drums; and special appearances by: Mike Thompson on guitar (Rod Stewart, Eagles), jazz great Holly Hofmann on flute, Mitch Manker on trumpet/horns (Ray Charles Orchestra), and Nathan James on guitar and vocals- just to name a few!
The album is here and available for purchase at my gigs or at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/whitneyshay
